Project Description:
The Golden Triangle Regional Landfill is located in Starkville, MS. This project was voluntarily installed as a carbon credit project to reduce the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions into the atmosphere. It is also the second Carbon Credit project developed in the state of Mississippi. The emissions credits have been registered and sold on the California-based Climate Action Reserve (CAR), since the Landfill Gas Collection and Control System first began operating in 2009. In September 2011, the Electricity Generation project began operations. The Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Generation Partners Program to develop a 999 KWh system to supply renewable energy to the grid. When operating at full capacity, the GenSet produces 1050 kWh of electricity, enough to power 600 homes in the Golden Triangle area. The Golden Triangle Regional Landfill was the first Landfill Gas-To-Energy Project in the state of Mississippi. This project was the very first landfill gas to electricity generation project developed and operational in the state of Mississippi.
